The 4th of July: fireworks, bicycle parades, apple pie, and THE GRILL. I don’t know how grilling became such a big part celebrating America’s Independence, but then again…I’m not complaining.
Grilling isn’t necessarily safe for us gluten free folks, but with a little planning it can be!
Heading to a party? Offer to bring a side and make it a filling one! I like to bring my Blue Ribbon Potato Salad
and a big fruit salad. That way I know there are two things I can eat. If it’s a big party and I’m worried about “sharing spoons” cross contamination, then I go ahead and portion myself a serving of each separately.
Sharing a grill? Get a grill liner!
My father-in-law introduced me to these last week and I have to admit, I was pretty impressed! Basically, a grill liner can be used on any grill to cover a dirty, or in our case – gluteny grate.
And if you are wondering how in the world a grate would get glutened…buns, sauces, marinades, etc. These days I feel like, how in the world wouldn’t something get glutened!
But back to the liners!
You can trim the aluminum, so you could have the grill master use the liner just for your hot dog or burger. You could basically create your own gluten free zone on the grill!
That way your food stays safe and no one is inconvenienced! My father-in-law found them at Lowe’s but I’ve also seen them online, just google aluminum grill liners!
I hope you have a FUN and SAFE 4th of July weekend!
I’m headed to a Red, White, and Blue Zumba party this morning!
Zumba in the morning equals hot dogs in the evening!
