Blame it on the Gluten

Since I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease, I felt like my eyes were opened to a lot of my issues.

Here was the cause of my migraines, bathroom fireworks, and bloating. Here was the cause of the rash on my shin. Here was the cause of my poor health! It was gluten all along.

Four years out, I find myself continuing to blame Celiac Disease.

But it’s not always the gluten! Sometimes it’s something more or something different that I need to be aware of too!

These could be caused by accidentally eating gluten, but they could also be caused by dehydration, stress, or poor eating. If I eat an overly sugary breakfast, like waffles with syrup and OJ, and follow that up with a poor lunch like french fries and AF gluten free chicken nuggets, then I will get a headache!

Most of the time, this is ALWAYS gluten. But sometimes it caused by too much caffeine or fiber.

While there really is NO bloating as bad as gluten bloating, I can get bloated by dehydration, too much fizzy water, and popcorn.

Well, this is one that I’m hoping to get an answer to today. I have had a rash on my shin on and off for almost an entire year. Just when it clears up, it breaks out again. And now I have a small patch of what I believe to be eczema on my knee. SO I’m off to the dermatologist today and I’m excited to hopefully get some answers.

One of the main reasons my father-in-law ended up in the hospital fighting for his life is because of chronic disease. Mike has multiple sclerosis and COPD, and because of the pain he is in everyday, he ignored some tell-tale signs of pneumonia. He overlooked these signs for months.

While having Celiac Disease, an auto-immune disease, means dealing with all of the symptoms I mentioned above, I think it’s important to be open to other causes than gluten, and make sure that I’m not letting something larger go unnoticed.

But hey, I hate gluten. A lot. With it’s doughy-ness and soft-ness, I just hate it! Winking smile
