I used to think that I had to go to a gym and put in at least an hour of hard labor to get some exercise. And while I do enjoy hittin’ the Y and getting in a good sweat session, between school, work, and home I need more ways to get active.
There are lots of ways to get moving without going to the gym, or even putting on workout clothes!
Dusting, cleaning, putting away the dishes, walking down the hall, painting…there are TONS of ways that you can incorporate squats and lunges into your day.
This past week I did SO MANY squats while painting in a day that I was the MOST sore I have ever been! EVER.
Working at the computer? Prop your computer on boxes or place at a tall counter: Standing is way better than sitting. Even if it’s only for 10 minutes every hour, stand! You burn more calories chewing gum than you do sitting in a chair. When you’re standing, you tense your leg muscles and also use muscles in your back, all the while shifting your weight from leg to leg. Burnin’ some calories y’all!
We all know this. Don’t take the elevator; take the stairs. Park your car further away from the door. Take an afternoon stroll; Walk your errands. Emailing someone in your office? Go and ask them instead. Use a restroom on another floor in your building. Challenge yourself to walk more.
Grocery bags: curl those babies. Packs of copy paper. Cleaning your porch: lift the chairs over your head to move them and pump them up. Use your muscles! Although, for the record…Max does not like it when I deadlift him.
Check back this afternoon for a BONUS WEEKEND recipe! These little nuggets are so good, I just couldn’t wait to share the recipe! Parrish and I…and Max are in LOVE!
