Taco Night!

I bet most of you feel the same way I do about eating out. I've eaten my weight in salads and pieces of grilled chicken in past few weeks. I don't get overly excited about eating out anymore. Plus I hate being that high maintenance girl who asks about the ingredients in everything! I'm already going to ask for a billion condiments...now I have to ask if those condiments contain wheat!

Last night some friends and I went to see a show at our local public radio station, WHQR. They have a program called Soup to Nuts which is all about music and have recently decided to change it up a bit. They are recording live music with an audience for their full hour show. I think they plan to do four live shows total and last night was the first recording. I love public radio and volunteer with them often. Luckily my friend had the foresight to reserve us some spots and we were front row for the taping. The show was a local band called The Barnraisers. The show was great!

Afterwards we walked across to a restaurant/bar called Firebelly's. It's a great source for Southwestern food in the Southeast. I typically would get a big basket of the best mozzarella sticks in town followed by a burrito. Looking at the menu initially all I saw was a Taco Salad, which I would have to ask for without the shell. While my friends enjoyed their beers, I sipped on my Diet Coke and decided I would just skip dinner tonight. I had eaten a big lunch of gluten-free spaghetti and meatballs.

Then my friend asked the waitress if their nachos were 100% corn. The waitress went to check and brought out this huge bag of round corn tortillas. She said that they use these raw tortillas to make their own chips and taco shells. They deep fry them fresh! I checked the ingredients and they were 100% corn! So I changed my mind and quickly ordered 3 beef tacos with the works. It's amazing how quick you can go from "No I'm fine" to "I'm starving" when there is something gluten free being served!
